About LVA Cape-Atlantic

  • Since 1983, Literacy Volunteers Association Cape-Atlantic (LVA-CA) has improved the literacy of the current and future generations by providing a volunteer-based adult reading and English language program.
  • Investing in Adult literacy helps children. The single greatest indicator if children’s success is the literacy level of their parents. Children of parents with low literacy skills are far less prepared than their peers and have a 72% chance of being at the lowest reading levels themselves.
  • LVA-CA recruits and trains volunteer tutors who are then matched with adults who wish to improve their basic literacy skills or wish to learn to use the English language.
  • LVA-CA tutors help with a broad spectrum of literacy skills in addition to reading, writing, comprehension & spelling. These include sessions for Conversation Groups, Financial Literacy & Health Literacy.
